Pokémon Go current Raid Bosses — March 2022

Last Updated:

March 2022 brings with it a brand-new season in Pokémon GO, the Season of Alola. Kick-starting the three-month season is a week-long Welcome to Alola event, introducing just some of the new Gen 7 Pokémon to the mobile game for the first time. We can expect more Alolan Pokémon as the season continues, but for now, keep reading to find out which Pokémon are heading up Raid Battles this month, including a very special Legendary.

Pokémon Go raids are battles against strong AI Pokémon that appear in gyms for a limited-time. They range in difficulty, which determines how strong your team needs to be, and how many people might be needed to overcome the Pokémon Go Raid Boss. Once you defeat the boss, you’ll encounter that same Pokémon, and the stats of Pokémon retrieved from Raid battles are always at least 2-stars.

Here, not only will we tell you which Raid Bosses are currently available in Pokémon Go, we’ll also help you choose who to take into battle against them. There may be better moves available to you than what we’re listing below, but we haven’t included Legacy Moves, i.e. exclusive moves that your Pokémon cannot currently learn. As such, every move listed below will be available to learn right now through the use of a TM. We also may not include Shadow or Mega Pokémon as counters, so that you have the best chance of having the counters and moves listed in your collection already.

Current One-Star Raid Bosses

This is the lowest tier of Pokémon Go Raid Boss and, as such, should be easy for one person to take down with just one or two of the right counters.

Bellsprout*

Grass 1

Grass-type Pokémon Bellsprout is one of the current Tier 1 Raid Bosses, and can easily be taken down alone. In order to do so, you’ll want to take Fire, Ice or Psychic-type Pokémon into battle to counter Bellsprout’s Grass and Poison typing.

  • Alakazam with Confusion and Future Sight
  • Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psychic
  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat

Electrike*

Electrike is – obviously – an Electric-type, and can easily be defeated with a team of Ground-type Pokémon. The dog-like Lightning Pokémon is a great choice to try and encounter through Raid Battles as an Electrike with high stats can not only be evolved into Manectric, but then again into Mega Manectric with Mega Energy. Mega Manectric is one of the strongest Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Add to that the fact that you could even encounter a shiny Electrike, and you could find yourself with the ultimate Mega Pokémon to show off with.

  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Krookodile with Mud-slap and Earthquake
  • Landorus with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Mamoswine with Mud-Slap and Bulldoze
  • Rhyperior with Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Phanpy*

Ground 2

The Adorable Long-Nose Pokémon Phanpy is back in Raid Battles this month, and while it, too, can be solo’d, it’s another worthwhile catch with a decent evolution. Phanpy’s evolution Donphan is relatively useful in Pokémon GO, both in PVP Battles and for taking down Electric-type Raid Bosses. As a Ground-type, you’ll want to take a party of Grass, Ice and Water-types Pokémon in against Phanpy.

  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Kingler with Bubble and Crabhammer
  • Kyogre with Waterfall and Surf
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Roserade with Razor Leaf and Grass Knot
  • Zarude with Vine Whip and Power Whip

Rockruff*

Rockruff makes its Pokemon GO as part of the Season of Alola, and while it can be hatched from 10kn eggs, your best chance of encountering Rockruff is by taking it down in a Tier 1 Raid Battle. Not only can Rockruff already be shiny, but its evolutions, Lyncanroc Midday form and Lycanroc Midnight form, are likely to be good fighters to have in your collection. As such, you’ll want to catch a couple of decent Rockruff’s while you can, and start collecting Candies while you’re at it.

Rockruff is of course a Rock-type Pokémon, so can be taken down easily by a range of move types. Fighting, Grass, Ground, Steel and Water-type moves will all do 1.60x damage, so you should find you’ve got plenty of options. Here’s just a few:

  • Breloom with Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Head
  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Drill Run
  • Kyogre with Waterfall and Surf
  • Lucario with Counter and Aura Sphere
  • Zarude with Vine Whip and Power Whip

Snubbull*

Fairy 3

A Fairy-type Pokémon, Snubbull can be taken down by Poison and Steel-type moves. Neither Snubbull nor its evolution Granbull are particularly useful in Pokémon GO, with Gardevoir a better offensive Fairy-type Pokémon. However, if you are looking to collect the two Pokémon in their shiny form, taking Snubbull down in a Raid Battle could give you a chance.

  • Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Head
  • Genesect with Metal Claw and Magnet Bomb
  • Gengar with Hex and Sludge Bomb
  • Roserade with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
  • Toxicroak with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
  • Victreebel with Acid and Sludge Bomb

All current Three-Star Raid Bosses

Tier three raids are mid-level difficulty but can still usually be defeated by one person with the right team, or you might need one or two other people to make it an easier takedown.

Alolan Graveler

While we’ve seen Alolan regional Pokémon before, it’s only fitting that they’d return for the start of the Season of Alola. One of two Alola regional variants appearing in Raids during the Welcome to Alola week, Alolan Graveler can be defeated pretty easily, and can even be evolved into Alolan Golem. A Rock and Electric-type Pokémon, Alolan Graveler is weak against Fighting, Grass and Water-types. However, Ground-type moves are super effective, dealing 2.56x damage.

  • Donphan with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Golurk with Mud-Slap and Earth Power
  • Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Landorus with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Rhyperior with Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Alolan Raichu*

Electric 3

Alongside Graveler, Alolan Raichu is the other Alolan variant reappearing in Raids to celebrate the launch of the Season of Alola. Alolan Raichu, like the Kanto Raichu, is an Electric-type, but the Alolan variant is also a Psychic-type, so is weak to Bug, Dark, Ghost and Ground-type moves.

  • Chandelure with Hex and Shadow Ball
  • Darkrai with Snarl and Shadow Ball
  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Gengar with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
  • Hydreigon with Bite and Dark Pulse
  • Weavile with Snarl and Foul Play

Nidoqueen

Nidoqueen stays on as the monarch of the Raid Battle this month. A Ground and Poison-type Pokémon, Nidoqueen is weak to Water, Psychic, Ice and Ground-types movesets.

  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Hoopa (Unbound) with Confusion and Psychic
  • Kyogre with Waterfall and Surf
  • Latios with Zen Headbutt and Psychic
  • Mamoswine with Mud-Slap and Avalanche
  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psychic

Wigglytuff

Fairy 4

Due to its high stamina, Wigglytuff remains one of the best Pokémon for use in PVP Great League Battles. And it’s back as a one of March’s current Raid Bosses, so now is the perfect time to try and a strong Wigglytuff to your team. A Normal and Fairy-type Pokémon, Wigglytuff is only weak to Poison and Steel moves, but remember, even with these move types in your party, the Gen 1 Balloon Pokémon’s stamina make it “tuff” to take down.

  • Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Head
  • Excadrill with Metal Claw and Iron Head
  • Genesect with Metal Claw and Magnet Bomb
  • Roserade with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
  • Scizor with Bullet Punch and Iron Head
  • Toxicroak with Poison Job and Sludge Bomb

Pokémon GO’s current Five-Star Raid Boss

These raids are the hardest difficulty and are always Legendary Pokémon. These will require a team of people to defeat. If you are unable to find people to raid with, take a look at our guide at the bottom of the page on how you can find Tier-Five raids to join.

Tapu Koko

Electric 4

Tapu Koko is a brand-new Pokémon to Pokémon GO. The Melemele Island Guardian made its debut in Pokémon Sun and Moon, the games based in the Alola region. As such, this powerful Fairy and Electric-type Pokémon is also helping to launch the Season of Alola. A Legendary Pokémon, Tapu Koko will require a good team of Trainers to take it down as you will not be able to defeat it single-handedly. And even with others lending a hand, you’ll still want to make sure you have the best Battle party of Ground and Poison Pokémon to counter Tapu Koko.

  • Excadrill with Mud-Slap and Drill Run
  • Golurk with Mud-Slap and Earth Power
  • Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
  • Landorus with Mud Shot and Earth Power
  • Rhyperior with Mud-Slap and Earthquake
  • Roserade with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb

Mega Pokémon Raid Boss

Mega Raids are similar in difficulty to Five-Star Raids but will only feature Mega Pokémon. Mega Evolution is a special form of evolution that appears in Pokémon lore and was launched in Pokémon Go in 2020.

Participating in, and winning, Mega Raids will require a team of people, and will reward you with Mega Energy, which you will need to Mega evolve your own Pokémon. You will receive Mega Energy specific to the Pokémon you have defeated.

Once a Mega Pokémon has been beaten, it will return to its normal state, and you will encounter it in its normal state. You will then need to spend Mega Energy to Mega Evolve it again.

Mega Venusaur*

Grass 2

One of the most recognisable Pokémon of all time, Venusaur is back in Pokémon GO Raids. This time, in its Mega Evolved form, so you’ll need to make sure you’re ready with the very best party (and team of Trainers) possible to stand a chance of defeating it. A Grass and Poison-type Pokémon, Mega Venusaur is weak to Fire, Flying, Ice and Psychic-type moves.

  • Darmanitan with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Latios with Zen Headbutt and Psychic
  • Mewtwo with Confusion and Psychic
  • Reshiram with Fire Fang and Overheat
  • Victini with Confusion and V-Create
  • Yveltal with Gust and Psychic
